Julia Molloy Gallagher founded the licensed architecture and design firm Julia Molloy Gallagher Architecture PLLC in Bushwick, Brooklyn in 2017 and in Hawthorne, California in 2023.

Originally from Northern California, Julia earned her Bachelors of Arts from Barnard College and a Masters of Architecture from Columbia University in New York City. She then continued in academia by teaching architecture and interior design studios at the Graduate School of Architecture, Preservation and Planning at Columbia University, New York Institute of Technology, and the School for Constructed Environments at Parsons School of Design. The studio builds upon this academic experience, her vast international travel, long-time relationship with artists and contemporary art, and sees each creative project as an opportunity to provide education, pursue research, and empower her clients in seeing their vision through to completion.

JMGA’s approach to design is collaborative, inspiring, and energizing. Each project is unique and is based on the clients requirements and desires for how they want experience their home. Often designing from the inside out; the interior layout and curated living experiences guide the formation of sculptural volumes and carve out interior views to vistas beyond. Sketches, models, and renderings enable clients to discover and co-create with our studio.

Working directly onsite during many construction projects, our team has the professional know-how, project management savvy, and the right connections between landscapers, designers, craftsman, engineers, and specialty makers to bring great teams together to fulfill on projects that both look good and make you feel good. Impacting you, your family, your community, and the environment in a positive way.

We are currently open to taking on new construction, addition, and interior design commissions. JMGA is registered to practice Architecture in the State of California and New York. Molloy Gallagher is on the Board of Directors for AIA Los Angeles, and is the 2024-2025 California Representative for AIA LA.

My overall working experience with Julia has been exceptional. This is my first time tackling a full gut renovation of a 3-story townhouse in Brooklyn, and she was able to walk me through the process with ease and confidence as she has renovated her own home in Brooklyn years before. More importantly, I felt like I had a partner with Julia, when it came to problem solving the issues that had arisen, and it was incredible to be able to bounce ideas to someone who has a keen sense of design and aesthetic.
— Simone T, First Time Renovator
When my husband and I set out to remodel our brownstone, we were very happy to have Julia there to help us transform our list of “wants” into a true plan for upgrading our living space to match our lifestyle. She worked with us to meet our priorities and our budget, and oversaw the project from start to finish. Now living and working from home during the past 10 months, we couldn’t imagine living a different way. Julia was not only a good design professional, but a great communicator, so it was easy to trust her advice on negotiating between our varied stylistic preferences and budget.
— Ellen S, Home Owner
I just love working with Julia! Her can-do attitude, clarity, peaceful confidence, and down to earth partnership inspires me, and gave me confidence that I could accomplish my building project. She collaborated with me to make smart investments. I learned so much about the construction process, and with each selection and design choice, I moved closer to building my vision. Working with Julia is like working with a best friend, who actually knows how to get things done.
